About

My name is Fay Polson and I'm a Sheffield based WW1 history blogger. I have been interested in family history for as long as I can remember. I began researching the names on the Wombwell war memorial after discovering two of my great uncles were commemorated on it. It was through my research that I learnt about and became a volunteer for the Barnsley War Memorials Project. The group is currently in the process of creating a Roll of Honour which will commemorate all the men and women from the Barnsley area who died while serving their country during WW1. I have been involved with the project for the past three years.

I have two blogs dedicated to the individuals from Wombwell and Goldthorpe who died during the First World War. I recently wrote an article about Passchendaele on behalf of the Bwmp for Pen & Sword books which was published in the Barnsley Chronicle.

I also collect WW1 era photographic postcards mainly relating to the Yorkshire area. I like to discover the story behind the image then share it on my blog. Aside from military and family history research, I take part in obedience and agility classes with my dog.
